"My students, racially, economically, and experientially diverse, came together in a way that I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing in my 16 years of teaching. Students who never sat together started eating lunch together, in essence, desegregating our cafeteria. It was beautiful."

21st Century Skills Bullying Prevention Film Competition
Submission Instructions

The 21st Century Skills Bullying Prevention Film Competition has been designed to complement the P3R Make-Your-Own-Film active learning curriculum. It is not essential to have worked with the curriculum in order to submit for the competition, however it is highly recommended as the curriculum maximizes the benefits in promoting social cohesion and helping reduce bullying while teaching a range of 21st Century literacy skills which meet English Language Arts and Health Education standards.

Based on their collective experience, the students work together to develop a story which interweaves the journeys of two students as they deal, in their own way, with progressively worsening incidents of bullying. The project culminates in the students filming four scenes from their story, approximately 4-5 minutes in duration – including a positive resolution scene from each storyline.

To submit for the competition: begin by ensuring you have all the submission materials outlined below, then visit the Competition Registration Page to upload the files.

The competition opens September 11 and closes March 31. Given the time required to prepare and implement the project we recommend that schools commence planning as soon as possible. See example timelines for implementing the curriculum.
